2022 Municipal Election Climate and Sustainability Questions

This page will have the answers received from all candidates to the following questions posed jointly by members of Alberni Valley Transition Town Society and the Alberni Climate Action Committee. If a response is received, the candidates name will be clickable to see their answers for City, ACRD, and SD70.

Candidates who did not receive an email can send their answers to avtransitiontown@gmail.com. Answers need to be received by October 7th, 2022.

The Questions:

  1. What actions have you personally taken to support a greener more sustainable climate?
  2. What opportunities do you see at the municipal, electoral area, school board level to reduce greenhouse gas emissions?
  3. What will you do, if elected, to overcome polarization in local politics around the challenges of climate change and build a middle ground that encourages listening, understanding, and consensus that can move the climate change action needle forward?
  4. What opportunities do you see for climate leadership in the following sectors. Please pick at least two.: Transportation, Housing, Land use and Development, Equity?
  5. If elected, what would your first action be toward reducing greenhouse gases in your position?
  6. The climate emergency requires long term thinking and planning.  How do you envision a climate sustainable community, electoral area, or school district, 50 years from now?
