Unfinished Business Lily Mah of the West Coast Action Group and of Transition Sooke is interested in connecting with our local group(s). A get-together could be arranged in future.
Upcoming Events The Fall Fair, September 11-12, will be virtual. AVTTS will take part. Edna will look look intohow this can be done. Chris recommends Seth Klein’s new book A Good War, after hearing Seth speak at a conference for post-secondary educators.
Go-By-Bike Week begins May 31st. All trips for whatever purpose may be logged. Register online to receive all the details.
Reports and Sub-groups AV Food Hub – Please refer to current minutes as circulated. Cycle Alberni Alberni Climate Action Group – Dan will follow up with the ADSS Social Justice class which he visited. The hope is that students will take the initiative to start their own group, with elders offering mentorship and support.
Sam, the Community Energy Coach of Clean BC (a collaboration of the BC and federal governments, BC Hydro and Fortis BC), is offering to share information about energy upgrades.
Chris is working with the Plastics Group, Ocean Friendly Community, to approach local restaurants about using compostable take-out materials. Alberni Aquarium is planning another waterways clean-up event.
Watershed Protection – Jane Morden and Mike Stini are refreshing the Watershed-Forest Alliance website. Chris has offered to assist. Edna continues with Vancouver Island Water Watch Coalition. Dan moved that the meeting be adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
