A challenge (or two) to how we do things…

(By Marusha)
For those who don’t already have enough to read (!), here are a couple of interesting papers that raise good questions about how to win hearts and minds on issues. These were shared in a course on environmental ethics that I took part in this winter. A lot of frustration was expressed in the class about the inability to get through to some people no matter how well our arguments are supported by scientific data. We agreed that the same old model of adversarial debate between polarized groups just isn’t sufficient anymore, and that we need to develop more pluralism in our approach. These two papers invite us to reframe the discussion in different terms. Might be something for the Education Group to consider…? M.
