Huge Event planned for Port Alberni 350 Climate Action Day!

There no less than 4 Events happening in the Alberni Valley this Saturday!, pick your favourite!

#1: Come to Echo Centre’s Dogwood Room at 2:00 PM for a lively, fast paced, fun, yet serious presentation on 350 and what you can do to take action on climate change. This will be the general meeting place, at 2PM sharp, for all participants of all events (except the hikers) to gather for a photo opportunity to be sent in to 350.org. There will be a short presentation, a picture taken for the 350 event and then the short movie The Story of Stuff will be presented.

#2: There will be a 350km bicycle relay (rain or shine!) around Port Alberni. Teams or Individuals will ride a 10km circuit starting and stopping at Ozzys Cycle on 10th Ave and Roger St. The event starts at 10AM and runs through the day (until the goal is met!). There will be refreshments at Ozzys and you can go there to sign up, get a 350 Bib, and join in.

#3: For those who aren’t into cycling, there will be a hike lead up to the Three Sisters Forest Trek trail. The hike begins at Coombs Country Candy at 9:00 AM on Saturday. Hikers should bring a lunch for the hike which will last 3 1/2 to 4 hours return. There will be a banner and picture take at the top to submit to 350.org.

#4: And Finally, if hiking is too tough or wet, you can Walk For Climate Action at Bob Dailey Stadium. Beginning at 12:30 on Saturday, Climate Action volunteers will be handing our 350.org action bibs to anyone who wishes one. Following their walk, participants are being encouraged to go to Echo Centre for the 2:00 PM presentation and group photo. Refreshments will be served

John and Bonnie have done an absolutely INCREDIBLE job putting this all together in very short notice, and a number of businesses and groups in town should also be noted for jumping on this and making this, what I think will be, The Greatest Environmental Event in the History of Port Alberni!
