FRUIT TREE RESOURCES

Have questions about fruit trees? You came to the right place!

Why should I grow or keep fruit trees on my property?

Whether it be for food, aesthetic appeal, or nostalgia fruit trees can be a great addition to your home. Growing your own fruit allows you to source your food locally, grow organic, get outside, and have something to share with others.

If you place your fruit tree(s) strategically on your property you can help decrease the costs of heating and cooling your home. Fruit trees are deciduous and shed their leaves at the end of the growing season in the fall/winter. This means that in the summer fruit trees can shade your house which helps protect your home from the hot summer sun. In the winter there are no leaves on the trees which allows the sunlight to shine on your home to heat it up.

If you have more fruit than you can handle you can try selling it, sharing it with friends and family, or donating it to the Alberni Valley Gleaning Project. Why not invest in a fruitful endeavour.

We have gathered some resources to help you identify what type of fruit you have, figure out how to prune your trees, and help you use all of the fruit you have.
