Supporting Local Agriculture at the Fall Fair

The Food Group of Alberni Valley Transition Towns will be hosting a feature display at the Alberni District Fall Fair to raise awareness about local agriculture, including the location and products of individual farms, farmers markets, farmgate sales, the food directory, community resilience, food security…….
This is a great opportunity for people to learn about valley agriculture and about AVTTS.
The “I EAT LOCALLY GROWN” bumper sticker will be available too.
The Fair runs from Thursday, September 16th through Sunday, September 19th. We will need help to man/woman the display on those days.
First of all, we need an organizing/brainstorming meeting. Bob Collins has offered to host this at Arrowvale. Early evening of Friday, July 17th or Thursday, July 23rd are suggested meeting times.
Food groupers and others, please call or e-mail Edna Cox 723-8362 daveandedna@shaw.ca to signal your interest and willingness to assist.

Public Coal Meeting coming to Port Alberni

Just want to give people a quick update.

AVTTS has met with the City this week and they’ve agreed to help us set up a public meeting *before* the official public consultation by the environmental assessment office and before the City and other stakeholders start their consultations as part of the working group advising the proponents proposal.

We are now in the process of gathering the various stakeholders and nailing down a time but it will likely be early June at Echo.

One key criteria both the AVTTS and the City agreed upon was that guidelines for the meeting and facilitation need to be strong and maintained to ensure a safe place for all to speak.

There is plenty of passion around this topic so in order for all the facts to come out and for everyone for and against to be given a chance to speak, the meeting will be moderated likely similar to the all-candidates meetings during election campaigns.
