Klein says, “Traveling around the world with the book in the last year, I’m finding audiences hungry for bold, visionary responses, far beyond the cautious policy tweaks offered by political leaders. The real leadership is coming from the streets, from communities: we’re honored to tell these stories and bring these voices to a wider audience.”
“The urgency is palpable,” said Director/Producer Avi Lewis. “I’m beginning to think ‘climate fatigue’ is a condition that just afflicts journalists! We’re delighted to have assembled a team of industry veterans who are ready to break all the rules and answer the call of this historic moment with an inspiring and hopeful message. Are we just preaching to the choir? Sure…if by ‘choir’ you mean the whole human race.”
In addition to an innovative plan to leverage all platforms as the film immediately goes into wide release, THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING is powered by community organizations and movements around the world – evidenced by the recent launch of the film’s trailer in 26 languages, with subtitles crowdsourced by fans. The film has been invited by a network of more than 100 civil society groups to kick off major mobilizations in the run-up to the UN climate talks in Paris in November. Special one-off screenings will take place in major cities across Europe on September 26, including projection on the side of a coal-fired power station in Amsterdam and a solar-powered pop-up cinema in Syntagma Square in Athens.
Supported by an extraordinary array of cultural icons and targeting global audiences via multiple
distribution strategies, this release is poised for maximum impact at a critical time: Obama is making climate change a major legacy item, the Pope is bringing his climate crusade to the US, and governments are gearing up for the most consequential climate summit since Copenhagen in 2009. And the surging climate justice movement – that put half a million people on the streets of New York one year ago – is promising an even bigger show of strength at the talks in Paris. These events will frame an autumn in which the climate crisis is once again top of mind – and THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING is dropping right in the middle of it all.
“FilmBuff is honored to be part of the incredible team collaborating with Avi and Naomi to release THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING. Naomi’s angle on climate change, namely one of proactive action, is inspiring and we are committed to putting the film in front of every interested viewer, worldwide.” stated FilmBuff’s CEO, Janet Brown.
“We are very proud to be part of this call-to-action for a new future that Naomi Klein started with her best-selling book, and that Avi Lewis brings home in his stirring film,” said Richard Abramowitz, Abramorama President. “We believe in the catalytic and transformational power of cinema to reach our global community.”
Narrated by and featuring Klein, the film was directed by Avi Lewis and produced by Avi Lewis and Joslyn Barnes, as well as Anadil Hossain; executive produced by Alfonso Cuarón, Danny Glover, Seth MacFarlane, Bertha Foundation, Jodie Evans, Matthew Palevsky, Lekha Singh, Alysha Sidhu and Shepard Fairey. Co-Executive Producers include Farhad Ebrahimi, Pamela Anderson, Vivienne Westwood, Susan Rockefeller and Kent Spriggs.
